What is Boho Style? 5 Reasons You Should Choose it for Your Wedding
A history lesson.
Boho-chic gets its name from the no longer present Bohemia, which was most recently a large region in the Czech Republic in central Europe. Bohemia no longer exists, the last of its lands being divided, but it has a rich history. The name originally referred to a much larger region under the rule of the Bohemian Crown as part of the Holy Roman Empire. Boho-chic comes from the ‘bohémiens’, which is what the French population of centuries past mistakenly referred to nomadic Romani communities as, incorrectly believing they were from Bohemia. If we look closer at the descriptive details of boho style, we will see a lot of the specific features present within Romani culture, such as weightless fabrics, floral details, embroidery, etc.
A lifestyle that appreciates nature.
Boho is rooted deeply in an appreciation of nature and human freedom. So outdoor decorations will be the number one priority if you want to go for that boho look!
Even if you don’t identify with the lifestyle or history that this trend has its origins in, you can still express your unique tastes and incorporate the boho theme into your wedding.
1. THE DRESS
In this style you will see a lot of lace wedding dresses. I mean a lot! And for a good reason, it gives you a look that is closer to the texture of nature and this wonderful sense of handmade lace or crochet in a dress is a fantastic aesthetic.
2. WEDDING FLOWER CROWNS
The summer-spring season is always full of baby's breath (gypsophilas) and eucalyptus leaves!
The best thing about baby's breath is that it is always in season (although some months are better than others) so it doesn't matter when you are getting married, you will always have access to these beautiful crowns!
Boho style is all about those little touches. It’s full of greens and laid back vibes, so if you are a nature lover like me it's the perfect style to celebrate your wedding day!
3. BACKDROPS AND DECORS
Geometrical shapes make frequent and fantastic appearances! But the king of backdrops is "Pampas Grass".
It is lush and fluffy, both elegant and playful at the same time.
If pampas grass is not your thing, there is still a lot of room to discover and explore. You can even DIY most of the backdrops with copper pipes and quality silk flowers. Just go for it! Try something out to find your style.
For inspiration (and to try and win you over to the boho wedding trend), here are some pieces that we love and hope you will too!:
