How to preserve your wedding bouquet as a beautiful momento

You did it. You said your vows, you kissed your partner (now spouse!), and you went home, probably feeling beyond exhaustion. You got married. But now what do you do with your bouquet?

Even though it’s a new day, you don’t want to forget one of the greatest days of your life so far, where your closest friends and family celebrated you and the one you love. One way to do this is to preserve your wedding flowers. There are several options available to you. Four are below.

Press Them

While this process will make a bouquet significantly more 2D than it was before, flattened and framed flowers will make an easier art piece to decorate with. You can hang it up on a wall or place it on the mantelpiece, without fear of it taking up as much room as another method.

All it takes is placing the flowers between two sheets of parchment paper and putting them inside of a heavy book. Then place something else heavy on top of the book (even another heavy book will do!). After that, just leave the flowers for around 2 weeks.

Alternatively, you could also microwave them! Fold paper around the flowers, then paper towels around the paper, and then place a flat, heavy, microwave-safe item on top of them, and microwave in short 20 second bursts for about a minute - or until they’re dry (maybe test this method first, as every microwave is different)!

From then, it’s up to you what you do with them, whether you frame them, glue them into your guest book, or something even we haven’t thought of!

Dry Them

When drying your own flowers, it is likely that the colour will change slightly, but depending on the method they may retain their fragrance. You can put the flowers in an airtight container while fully-covered in Silica gel for 7 days; you can tie the stems tightly together before hanging the flowers upside down for a few weeks in a warm, dry, place (like over a radiator) - dry them in the dark to retain scent as much as possible.

Put Them in Resin

Once your flowers are dried, if looking to make a solid statement piece out of them, you can put them in resin - getting the resin and mould from online and following the instructions specific to your brand of resin. The range of moulds you can find allows a lot of flexibility with what you do with your flowers after the wedding!

Use Dried Flowers for the Actual Wedding
