How Do I Care for my Dried Flowers? (5 Top Tips!)
Flowers can make your home beautiful, and dried flowers won’t wilt and don’t need to be watered like fresh flowers, but there are still steps you need to take.
We know the story. You buy flowers, intent on loving them and turning your home into the nature wonderland you’d always dreamed it would be and becoming the plant whisperer, no, the flower queen you know you’re destined to be.
Only problem is… they keep dying.
It’s fine! You’re okay! Once you make the jump to dried flowers (like those sold by Hidden Botanics), you’re in a much better position, but it’s still important to know how to care for them. This list is here to help you help your flowers have a long life in your home.
1. Display Them Indoors
This first step is important because dried flowers are very delicate, so you need to keep them away from strong winds and, most importantly, rain. These can have ravaging effects on them.
2. Keep Them Away from Direct Sunlight
Sunlight will not kill your dried flowers, but it can cause their colours to fade overtime. So make sure to keep them away from window sills. That does not mean the room has to be dark, indirect light is not a problem. Just make sure the sun is not directly shining down on them and they will be fine!
4. Cleaning the Dust Off of your Flowers
This step comes with a few options, you can use a:
-
Hairdryer
-
Air compressor
-
Feather duster
Your hairdryer would need to be set to a cold setting and at low power so you can avoid inadvertently damaging your flowers while getting rid of the dust.
An air compressor can be used but you’ll need to make sure you’re a safe distance away from the flowers.
Feather dusters can be used for bigger arrangements with palm spears.
5. Use Cedar Chips to Keep the Moths Away
You can use cedar chips or non-toxic repellent formulas to keep moths away. These little creatures are a blight on dried flowers, and can cause some serious damage!
Lovely quality, beautiful colours & smell nice! Even better than I was expecting, can't wait to use them next month for my wedding - thank you!! :)
